Beginner’s Cake Decorating Class – Back to Basics (One-to-One Session) Our Back to Basics class is the perfect starting point for anyone new to cake decorating. Now available as a private one-to-one session, this course is designed to introduce beginner enthusiasts to the essential foundational skills needed to begin their cake decorating journey with confidence. This class is suitable for adults and mature children aged 13 and above (please note that for students under 16, we request a brief meeting prior to enrolment to ensure suitability). This practical and engaging session takes place using a faux (dummy) cake, allowing all students to begin with a flawless surface—ideal for mastering technique without the pressure of baking. The session focuses on building strong foundational skills and includes: •Covering a cake with professional-grade sugarpaste (and understanding the difference from supermarket roll-out icing) •Achieving a smooth, professional finish •Colouring sugarpaste with confidence •Applying the panel method to create straight, crisp edges •Texturing the cake board for a polished presentation •Adding ribbon and decorative embellishments using cutters •Using alphabet cutters to add personalised lettering •Creating a fun animal topper using premium Saracino modelling paste The class concludes with a guided decorating session where you will apply your new skills to personalise your design using various cutters and tools provided. This is a relaxed, supportive environment where questions are welcomed and creativity is encouraged. All basic tools and equipment will be provided for the class. A materials package including sugarpaste, modelling paste, and decorative elements is available at an additional cost of £35. The Beginners Cake Decorating Class – Back to Basics, is where the beginner cake decorating enthusiast starts. This class is open to all beginners, (we will except any mature child over the age of 13, however we’d like to meet the student beforehand). We do suggest that once you have attended this class you enrol on our preparation of sponge base or preparation of a fruit cake class. Back to basics is an excellent class for beginners wishing to learn the basic skills in cake decorating. We will be executing all the techniques today on a ‘faux cake’. This ensures all students start with the perfect base. You will be shown how to cover your base with professional sugarpaste, and we will explain how this differs from commercially purchased roll out icing. We will show you how to colour the paste and produce a smooth finish like the professionals. You will be shown how to sugarpaste using the panel effect to produce a straight edge how to texture the board add ribbon and embellish the sides with a cutter make an animal edible topper from the professional Saracino modelling paste use letter cutters to add a name. To complete your cake, we will demonstrate how to use cutters and then under guidance you will be let loose to decorate your cake and make it personal.
